In September, Smith Mountain Lake Community Bible Study began a 30 week study of the
Gospel of Luke. This is a wonderful course that allows the student to see Jesus in His
humanity with clear, concise commentary in handling historic record as well as in
conveying the truth of the Gospel in such a way that the student will see Jesus as Savior
and Lord. It includes straightforward, but thought-provoking Home Study Questions.
Community Bible Study is an interdenominational Bible study for our local community.
We welcome people from all backgrounds and levels of Bible knowledge. Our SML class
has men, women, and children from 14 different area congregations. We meet at Halesford
Baptist Church at the corner of Rt. 122 and Lost Mountain Road on Wednesdays from 9:30
to 11:30 AM. It is very easy to join at any time. Registrations are currently being taken for men,
women and children up through 6th grade.
Smith Mountain Lake CBS classes are attended by people from various
backgrounds who meet at Halesford Baptist Church for Bible study. Classes meet
for two hours, once a week for 30 weeks, beginning in September and ending in
May. Our class schedules seasonal breaks around Christmas and Easter to coincide
with the Franklin County school calendar.
The CBS approach to Bible study allows participants to be exposed to the Word
of God in several ways:
* Studying a Bible passage at home and answering questions
* Sharing in a small Core Group discussion
* Listening to a lecture by a trained Teaching Director
* Reading a prepared Commentary on the lesson
* Seeing the truths of the Bible lived out in the lives of leaders and class
members.
